About Summit Speech School

Our Mission

To empower children with hearing loss to become effective communicators using listening and spoken language. With support from families and professionals, there are no limits to our children reaching their fullest potential in their homes, schools and communities, and becoming lifelong learners.

Our Vision

To lead, educate, and nurture New Jersey’s children, families, and professionals by providing best practice in oral deaf education through innovative communication strategies, state of the art technology, and research-based educational practices.

Our Background

Summit Speech School, located in New Providence, New Jersey, was founded in 1967. The school is one of only 51 Listening and Spoken Language OPTION Schools in the country and the first in New Jersey teaching children who are deaf and hard of hearing to listen and talk without the use of sign language. Our school provides specialized services to children from birth to age 3 through Early Intervention, to Preschoolers at our program in New Providence and to students from  preschool through high school in districts all over New Jersey. Students using hearing aids, cochlear implants, BAHAs and FM/DM systems benefit from instruction by Teachers of the Deaf providing intervention to develop listening and spoken language success.
